Since their 2019 debut, Northwest outfit Stepford Wives have been making a compelling splash across the alternative scene. Their string of achievements includes praise from Louder Than War, spins on the BBC and even an appearance on Soccer AM. Now, these generation-defying post punk masters return with a refreshingly transparent new single.
It’s called Carousel, and it’s one hell of a tune. With a rocking range of dynamic instrumentals and undulating vocals reminiscent of Bowie, this track feels set apart from the rest.

The intro is cool yet exhilarating. From the clang of psychedelic staple guitar to the splashy hi-hats and popping snare, Stepford Wives burst into this song with a flame of energy that flits throughout.
Its verses are strung with metaphorical lyrics about authentic self-discovery. They don’t miss a beat in portraying all aspects of the journey, in finding your truth both physically and emotionally. Carousel represents that experience and its unpredictable nature through musical variability.
Each section is decorated in unique licks and fills that foil repetition, while the structure takes dips before soaring in orchestrated cacophony.
The song reaches its midway pinnacle before drawing in to explode in the final minute, where the band give everything they have. Guitarists Brad and Niklos show off their expert soloing skills, as the burning flame roars with the euphoric passion of self-acceptance.
As mentioned before, Carousel feels a cut above the rest, and Stepford Wives are sure to have even more in store.
