WE REVIEW THE NEW SINGLE FROM STILLA – WON’T WORK OUT

Twenty year old, Melbourne based singer-songwriter Stilla presents her latest single ‘Won’t Work Out’, a track which is super catchy and easy listening but struggles to offer anything distinctive.

Instrumentally the track is colourful and relaxed with a guitar lick reminisant of The 1975’s debut providing a backbone to Stilla’s honest tale of relationship trouble. The whole track is excellently mixed, with fantastic dynamics throughout, most notably the explosive third chorus.

Despite the track sounding pleasant and the songwriting convincing, Stilla’s voice lacks identity and I would struggle to point out her vocal from a line-up of her pop contemporaries and something that holds me back from falling in love with the track.

Won’t Work Out’ is a relaxed offering and is crying out to be played on a calm spring evening as temperatures begin to rise and for that I have to commend Stilla. That being said, this release provides little in the way of excitement and has a glaring lack of personality, leaving me craving a more distinguishable sound from her future releases.
