Want to hear a raucous, loud, energetic track that is genuinely very good? Then you definitely need to hear the new single from Sweet Unrest. How Are You Feeling is the band’s latest release and it has an infectious energy you can’t help but instantly love.
The song begins with a drum intro which sets the pacing for the whole song. As someone listening to the track, you know you are in for a fun vibe. It’s fast, it’s lively, and the solitary ‘yeah’ that we hear before the instruments join, gives the song a bit of attitude.
The lyrics are punchy, sung in short staccato bursts, which matches the energy and gives it. speed. There are no drawn out notes which makes the song feel really short and compact.
There’s a bit of variation in the way the verses are sung, as one of the last lines before the chorus comes in, is sung slightly higher. This makes it feel more dramatic and builds up tension as the track comes into the big chorus. Likewise the fun effect that is put on the vocals in the line just before the chorus means that every instrument drops out and things sound quieter. When the chorus does come in, it sounds full and epic.
The way lead singer Jack Rivers sings is with a punky, rough edge, which sounds especially evident in the chorus. Although a chorus is usually the central point in a song, in How Are You Feeling, it is almost too short to stand out, but again it matches that punchy style that we hear throughout the rest of the song.
Before the track goes into the next verse, there is an instrumental, which consists of a deliberately chaotic sounding guitar solo. It carries over into the verse too, adding a layer to the song instrumentally and giving it continuity.
When the chorus comes in for the second time, we get a slightly longer version, giving us more time to appreciate the brilliance of it. The rhythmic section that follows it is also great, finally allowing things a chance to slow down slightly, and the drums a moment to shine. The song has a moment to breathe before it comes in for the final chorus that leads the song out. At just two minutes 20, the fast pacing of the tune means that it is over far too quickly. But what an awesome couple of minutes it was.
