Hailing from Scotland, The Azurescens is a four-piece indie/rock band. Formed in 2020, the band features Gary (Gaz) Anderson on rhythm guitar and vocals, Andy Tait on lead guitar and vocals, Brian Gallacher on bass and vocals, and Steven (Knoxy) Knox on drums, who joined the band in May 2023. They got their unique name from a psychedelic mushroom they found online, which fits perfectly with their eclectic sound influenced by legends like Oasis, Ocean Colour Scene, Stone Roses, and Pink Floyd.
Their latest release, “The Real Deal”, is indeed the real deal when it comes to rock music! From the first notes, the song also intrigues with a psychedelic sound that leaves you guessing. Even after a few listens, I can’t figure out what it is, which makes it so captivating.
While it sounds like your typical rock song, there’s an interesting twist. In the middle of the song, from the hook, the vocals step aside, and the instruments fully take over. This is where the bass and drums really get to shine. To break its common sound, I feel that it’s a track that needs to be experienced live to stand out from other rock songs.
And indeed, the live scene is where the band truly excels. They nearly sold out their headline show at Sneaky Pete’s in Edinburgh and made their debut at Bathgate’s Dreadnought Rock. They are also in for a big support slot with Definitely Oasis at the Liquid Rooms in Edinburgh on November 30th.
Overall, “The Real Deal” is a taste of The Azurescens’ potential and with it, the band invites us to watch them perform live.
