WE REVIEW THE NEW SINGLE FROM THE BAD ACTORS – HELP ME LOSE MY MIND

A debut single here from the new Sheffield duo The Bad Actors.

Characterised by its catchy rhythms and its eccentric composition, it feels as if it mixes elements of rock and hip-hop. The huge glittering guitar riffs are Hendrix-esque, with the conversational style of the vocals giving it that more laid-back edge.

Frontman Remi describes the track as a true story of a guy who “dude came up and asked me for money. He straight-up said, ‘I need to get high’”. You’d never guess though from hearing the music here that this was inspired by a rather mundane, somewhat sad tale. It doesn’t judge, but instead turns just uses it as the base for a song packed full of excesses.

Help Me Lose My Mind may be the debut single for this incarnation, but Remi has been in and around music with several previous bands. Known for his stage presence, they have worked that energy and attitude into the heart of this track. The vocals have a definite swagger to them. That said though, they do not sacrifice any substance for the great style they incorporate. The instrumentals are inviting, the lyrics and interesting, and the whole package just feels brilliantly balanced.

For a debut effort, this is almost unbelievable. Perhaps all those previous experiences in bands, and the fact these two have been friends since their school days, have all been building to reach this point. If so, it’s definitely been worth it for them. A fantastic opening release, and plenty of promise of more to come. Take a listen below.
