The Badly Behaved, who are a Berlin synth band, have a new song out titled Only Slightly Famous. As their last single of 2024, it serves as a brilliant end to their year. Having released a couple of other tracks earlier on in the year, it was quite an exciting time for them, perhaps paving the way for what could be a new album in the near future. Until we get any further information, we will just have to feast our ears on their latest release. Shouldn’t be too difficult, as it’s a tune.
The track is both modern but also quite retro, channelling the stylings of artists like Lady Gaga and Kylie Minogue simultaneously. Both these artists create fun, pop music for the masses, and The Badly Behaved are nailing this sound. It’s radio friendly, dancey and high energy, perfect for a good time.
Despite the song being obviously lively, there is also a sense of ambience and chill to the track that pretty much makes it ideal for any listening occasion. It isn’t obnoxious and in your face with its energy, but there is enough to make sure that people will sit up and give it a listen. This balance means that it will appeal to many.
Only Slightly Famous is driven by synths, which are a permanent fixture within the track. It creates a pulsating rhythm and also makes it feel futuristic, but in a way that would have felt futuristic in the 90’s due to its equally nostalgic vibe. This is further evident in the reverb that is attached to the whole song, particularly the vocals which sound slightly echoey and distant. The drum fills in the track are a great way to piece the complete song together, ensuring that the energy is still upbeat, driving the song. As the song ends quite abruptly, it leaves you wanting more and you’ll find yourself hitting repeat multiple times.
