“Leaving Behind” is the newest offering from young and fresh indie four-piece band the Cases, hailing from Preston in Lancashire.
They’ve already built up an impressive catalogue of music and seem to be building a decent following, as well as some impressive festival and support slots, whilst also catching the attention of This Feeling.
It’s a short track of just over two minutes, but my god it packs a punch!
It wastes no time in getting started, with a guitar riff that immediately grabbed my attention and the vocals followed shortly after and it immediately settles into a soft but melodic indie-rock feel.
The lyrics are incredibly easy to pick up, giving it that sing-a-long factor almost immediately, I picked up the themes of change, picking up on relationships (or situationships?) as well as the general ups and downs of dating, which generally, most of us probably would leave behind.
The song title is clever for that reason and whilst there are a lot of lyrics, they don’t get drowned out with the instrumental, it is musically genius with it’s tone and tempo, a proper indie anthem that only lifts those relatable lyrics and quite frankly I bet is belting when played live.
When reviewing or listening to any new music or band – I always listen a few times, but I soon found myself listening to this on loop – it itched a scratch in the musical part of my brain that I didn’t know I needed to.
The artwork is simple but very effective, the colouring of blue matches the tone of the lyrics and the Morris Marina stickers give a little nod of nostalgia on the back of a car window, which you would see driving away, quite literally “leaving behind” so to speak, clever symbolism.
What a bloody good track, I’ll be adding this one on my playlist and also adding The Cases to my ones to watch, as I have a really good feeling about them when they’re bringing out music as good as this.
