Your first track as a band is a big deal. You have to ensure that what you are releasing is going to be good enough to get attention. Waiting to find out if your song is a hit with the masses is sure to be a daunting wait. The Dazed Minded need not worry about that, as their debut track is a great tune that will definitely get the recognition it deserves and will earn them an instant horde of fans.
The track, entitled Oh Boy, is high energy and is what can only be described as a feel good bop. Full of positive vibes, you can’t help but tap your feet along and smile throughout. There’s a slight rock edge to the indie composition, as well a bit of a Britpop infusion. Resembling the likes of Elastica with their female vocalist and a British accent coming through the lyrics, the timeless sound is brilliant and a winning formula for The Dazed Minded.
The song starts with vocalising over the top of the classic indie rock instrumentation. It immediately captures your attention, and continues to do so when it comes back in before each chorus. This really drives the track, giving it some enthusiasm as we enter into the hook.
The vocals are a standout in the song, with singer Beth giving us a bit of a what sounds like attitude, particularly in the chorus. This little nuance in the way it is sang propels the composition into something particularly interesting. We hear the lyrics telling a story of infatuation, but in a light and optimistic way that feels truthful and relatable. Something we have all felt, thus forcing you to grin and sing along.
The structure of the track, much like the instrumentation are standard. There are verses, a chorus and a bridge. It feels traditional and familiar and like it’s bringing that Britpop sound back for a new generation to enjoy. And that is why Oh Boy is such a great song. Using elements of tracks listeners will already know and merging it with their own sound is something many artists do. It works. The Dazed Minded have done that in a way that has created a brilliant debut single and is setting them up for what looks like a bright future as musicians.
