THE DEAD KING COMPANY

WE REVIEW THE NEW SINGLE FROM THE DEAD KING COMPANY

Sending ripples through Liverpool’s underground music scene is The Dead King Company; a project defined by moody ballads and captivating melodies that have you sinking into the sound. With top tracks boasting tens of thousands of streams, The DK Co. is back with a new tune.

The Bishop’s Lament intros with a finger-picked acoustic guitar riff and an electric topline. The tonal combination is enchanting, pulling forth visions of an alternative world, while the gorgeously composed melodies accentuate the scene.

A few bars pass before composer and lyricist, Nathan Carroll’s, voice first appears on the track. His opening words, I hate all my imperfections/only dying is on my mind, begin to shape the tale of The Bishop’s Lament.

Meanwhile, the background noise grows with pacey drums and a deep, brooding bassline. The arrangement is well-balanced and progresses nicely, however, the song feels as if it’s lacking a pinnacle or big moment. Because of this, the overall picture falls slightly flat despite the dynamic instrumentals.

On the whole, The Bishop’s Lament is a successful tune. It’s refined in composition and production and portrays a clear message. However, the addition of more exaggerated peaks and troughs could take this song from a success to a triumph.
