Talk of the Town is the newest single from Doncaster-based The Denaby’s.
Quite different from their usual sound, as the likes of ‘Sunshine’ and ‘Good Time’ I’d say are very Indie-pop, their last single ‘Greenlight’, which had a rockier, punkier feel.
The Denaby’s have said that their influences come from bands like Blink-182, Green Day and Sum 41, which is the direction I see ‘Talk of the Town’ going in.
The instant riff teases a quick build-up, and then the drums and bassline hit you, building the suspense for frontman Niall’s punchy vocals.
The guitar backing makes this song and the drum beat compliments it beautifully – I imagine it being a hit at a live show, especially on the main stage of a festival.
Whilst the vocals are fantastic, there is a lot of instrumental to it, something I generally don’t think works, but on this, it does. The Denaby’s have already teased part of the music video to this, the snippet looks exciting and I’m looking forward to the full release.
The artwork is taken directly from the music video, a simple but smart move from the band, a powerful image and gives the aura of a spicy single.
Overall, a slight change of direction, but one that suits them, I’m looking forward to what comes next from The Denaby’s.
