“Crashing Down” is the newest single from Glasgow-based The High Flats – a five-piece indie-rock-esque group that have been friends most, if not all of their lives.
It’s the follow-up from 2024 single “Revolution” – which offered a perfect indie tune feel, but “Crashing Down” as the title suggests, ramps it up a notch and is a much rockier number – without being too in your face.
With an intro The Libertines would be impressed with, The High Flats don’t mess about with their newest single – getting straight down to business – with a strong guitar presence and the drums only complimenting it with an intense and upbeat flavour.
The vocals are a little bit grainy – but that’s not a criticism, it’s the perfect style for a heavier track like this, offering that little bit of mystery behind it – and injecting the vocals as and when needed – the groans in the solo only amplify this – think Bon Scott of AC/DC meets Alex Turner of The Arctic Monkeys – it’s a unique sound for sure.
The track is consistent from start to finish, offering a lot of energy, it would be difficult in my opinion to get bored of this and would be good in a high-motivation situation or any where you just need to get that energy up and out there.
The guitar solo is utterly sublime – giving riffs that are consistently on point and building almost like a mini-rollercoaster, keeping you hooked with every note, twist and turn.
The artwork is also something to be admired, whilst it’s not what I would have personally chosen, it does match the mood and the elements of that song, a dark background with punchy lights headed towards the end – it could be a subtle nod to something – I haven’t quite figured out what yet – but it’s intriguing all the same.
Overall, it is a fantastic track experimenting with the individual band members boundaries and showcasing what each member can bring to a track, it’s powerful, edgy and leaves me with a taste for more – hopefully not much longer either!
