THE IDKS

WE REVIEW THE NEW SINGLE FROM THE IDK’S

Hailing from Essex is The IDK’s, a humble quartet harnessing the great nostalgia of 90s rock ‘n’ roll. Their first EP dropped in 2023 and saw widespread success, particularly in the US where the majority of their 1,570 monthly listeners reside. With a growing fanbase, The IDK’s have kicked off 2025 with a shiny new single.

You’re Alright is a sweet tune with classic indie effervescence. It starts with a resonating acoustic guitar line. New parts gradually join the mix, including a soft melodic bassline and a clean topline guitar. These sit beneath singer Greg Judd’s raspy and strained voice, which creates a sense of desperation – the kind that you feel when someone you love is hurting.

Judd’s emotive vocal delivery paired with the uplifting instrumentals outlines the tune’s purpose; it’s a hand reaching out, a reassurance that’s saying, as the title states, You’re Alright, and things are going to work out.

The minute-and-a-half mark is where the song really takes off, elevating into a crescendo backed by splashing stadium-style drums and a choir of backing vocals. It’s like The IDK’s have sonically captured that feeling when your problems are finally solved, an emotional cleansing.

The only downside is that the vocals get a little lost in the mix, making the lyrics hard to hear. Although the tone, structure and arrangement do well to portray the song’s thematic intention, I feel the lyrics are probably an important part and should be heard too.

In all, You’re Alright is a strong single, signalling exciting things to come from The IDK’s this year.
