The first word that came to mind was ‘heavy’, it’s not the heavy you would imagine, it’s not metal, but The Osragli Band is something a little bit different.
‘My Name is Jack’ – I didn’t know what to expect, I saw that the style of The Osragli band is a mix of Jazz and Punk, and I was almost expecting something a bit like ‘Zombie’ by the Cranberries.
It was almost like a garage rock style, it’s very well put together, which does flow as a track, but the repetition of the “My Name is Jack” lyric works when it probably shouldn’t.
It opens with a brilliant drumbeat and a low-key synth rhythm, then the vocals hit you, it was not what I was expecting.
The vocals gave a deep tone, which complemented the backing track.
The lyrics describe a bit of a ‘Jekyll and Hyde’ situation, which at first listen, I didn’t pick up on.
However, as I listened more, it matches the backing track, and the tone of the voice and it does tell a story of how the individual is feeling and what is happening, a slow burner.
The Manchester-based band is set to release ‘My Name is Jack’ on the 19th of January.
In the meantime, you can listen to their Spotify here:
I imagine seeing ‘My Name is Jack’ live would be quite theatrical, the song has that element to it.
I would be interested to see it in a music video format as well, I feel like The Osragli band could be very creative with it.
I’m keen to see what the follow-up of this would be, whether it would be along the same lines, or if the band would go a bit more punk.
As their previous single ‘Rolling Thunder’ is quite different to ‘My Name is Jack’, I’m looking forward to seeing what they come up with next.
