Have you ever just sat and thought about someone who ghosted you out of the blue? Never quite got the right explanation as to why they started blanking you? Well, Greater Manchester band The Redroom have perfectly put these types of emotions into their latest song Making Me A Stranger. It’s perfect lyricism reminisces on certain feelings when it feels as though someone, who you knew intimately, is quite literally blatantly ignoring you on purpose.
This chill and soft song from start to finish has the undertones of the 2020 indie era where certain artists were releasing songs on TikTok to promote themselves, it highly reminds me of something I would stumble upon online when we were all experiencing lockdown. It gives me those vibes of a home recorded music video, where lead singer Jess would potentially be dancing in her bedroom with a mic in her hand – I think that kind of music video would fit perfectly for this song too.
The song starts off with a beautiful intro into vocals, as said previously, the tone never changes and is consistently dreamy. The drums are quickly followed in the intro where Charlie McDonald (drummer) plays them so effortlessly, as if he could perform this song in his sleep. We are then greeted to the calming guitar played by Jake Elliot and the unforgettable bass by Dominic Aldridge.
The whole song is unhurried, giving this tune such a ethereal attribute. With how this song is written and composed, I can just tell that this band work so great together and have produced some amazing songs! I get the suspicion that this song is kind of a way of accepting the fact that whatever went on with a certain person is over as the melody is collected whereas the lyrics sound as though it hurts but not enough to tip you over the edge.
The band have an upcoming tour in April where they are playing in London, Manchester, Newcastle, and Leeds. If you love anything Indie and bluesy-rock, you don’t want to miss these talented bunch of musicians performing in a city near you!
