Manchester has a rich music history; we all know that already. But did you know that a progressing part of this history is the rise in artists getting increasing recognition when they’re out busking. This trend has become so prominent that the city hosted its very own ‘Manchester’s Got Busker Talent’ back in 2017 in tribute to this scene. The Tails, hailing from Heywood, are a new addition to the regular buskers roster you can spot amongst the hustle and bustle.
The Tails’ newest single ‘Time’ incorporates the raw grit of city life but acts as an anchor of calm amongst all the chaos. The vocals bring comfort as they flow across soft instrumentals but in places it can feel too soft. Whilst the instruments follow a consistent pattern to give the band a prominent sound, more of a distinction could be made in between the choruses and the verses with more varied tempos and melodies utilised.
The backing vocals provide beautiful harmonies that fill the main vocal gaps to bring verses together cohesively. The chorus comprises of one lyric “the time is ready; it’s coming to get you” being repeated which is simplistic but effective and the final raised vocal in the bridge really hits the message home. This is accompanied by dreamy guitar riffs and hazy drums that all provide a moment for relaxation.
The Tails are off to a strong start with their studio releases and with a few iconic Manchester venues already under their belt it will be exciting to see where they go next.
