VELVETINES

WE REVIEW THE NEW SINGLE FROM THE VELVETINES

Bolton’s Velvetines are back with their dreamy new single, Where Do You Go. The third release from this indie five-piece, it takes a dramatically more stripped back for than their two previous singles.

Having previously introduced themselves with raucous tracks Red Carpet and Breathe It In, most would have expected Where Do You Go to follow the same formula. Bravely and unashamedly they have gone completely the opposite way. A brilliantly spacious track, it relies on a minimalist acoustic guitar riff ambling away below the enchanting vocals.

Still being in the relative infancy of their journey the temptation must surely have been to try and go bigger and bigger with their sound to see where they could push it, but luckily for us they have resisted that urge.

Instead they have showcased a real maturity and further emphasised the depths of their talents, on this occasion pushing the lyricism to the forefront instead of raw energy we were already aware they possessed.

Velvetines have described how the “Live and breathe music”, and this experimenting with different levels to their sound certainly seems to back up that statement. We already knew they were brimming with potential, but Where Do You Go adds a whole new layer to their small but impressive catalogue.
