WE REVIEW THE NEW SINGLE FROM THE WOVAN PROJECT – WINDS

Hartlepool’s finest, The Woven Project, are back with a bang—or rather, a breeze. Their latest single, “Winds (Foll Remix),” dropped like a refreshing gust on June 21st, 2024, and it’s got us all feeling a little lighter, a little more introspective, and maybe even a bit glitchy.

Remember when The Woven Project dropped their critically acclaimed ‘Let Beautiful In’ EP last year? Now, they’ve handed over the keys to their musical kingdom to a bunch of talented mates for a remix project, aptly titled ‘Let Beautiful In: Rewoven’. “Winds (Foll Remix)” is the final piece of this puzzle, and what a piece it is.

From the get-go, “Winds (Foll Remix)” feels like stepping into a dreamy, digital forest. The track opens with an array of glitchy sounds that are both unnerving and soothing. It’s like finding beauty in chaos—a bit like discovering your favorite pub has a five-star chef in the kitchen.

The electronic elements are intricate and well-placed, creating a soundscape that is both immersive and expansive.

Imagine a delicate balance between organic and synthetic sounds: the remix retains the warmth of The Woven Project’s original while injecting a fresh, contemporary energy. The glitchy beats and ambient layers are like little musical Easter eggs, rewarding listeners with new details on each playthrough.

The vocals in this track are something to write home about. They float above the intricate instrumentation like whispers on the wind.

Now, as much as we’re loving this track, it wouldn’t be RGM if we didn’t offer a bit of constructive feedback. There are moments where the transitions between the glitchy elements and the more melodic sections could be smoother. It’s a minor gripe, but tightening these transitions could elevate the track from great to mind-blowing.

All in all, “Winds (Foll Remix)” is a stellar addition to The Woven Project’s repertoire. It’s a track that demands multiple listens, each time revealing new layers and nuances. Foll has done a fantastic job of reimagining the original, creating a remix that stands on its own while paying homage to the source material.
