Welsh indie singer-writer Tom Collins returns with his new single, Little Louis. Having slowly but surely built up an impressive catalogue of tracks since his debut EP back in 2019, his constantly improving output has started to garner a deserved fanbase, and this will only add to that trend.
Rapturous indie riffs accompany the more cutting vocals on this new track. The melodic patterns which are omnipresent throughout give it a brilliantly vibrant feel. The real raw energy in the vocals however, most reminiscent of a pup-punk track, lift Little Louis to more than just another indie track.
Since gaining some traction within the scene Collins has shared the stage with some of his contemporaries such as Sherlocks and Shambolics, as well as spending time honing his songwriting skills with Kyle Falconer. With that is mind it is perhaps no surprise that he continues to develop and perfect his skills so perfectly, clearly reaching from a variety of influences to do so. This latest piece you would have to argue is the best example yet of that.
As we have come to expect from a Tom Collins track, Little Louis excels thanks to his Collins’ ability to interweave the energy of his sound with the meaningfulness of his lyricism. Here again he gets that balance perfect, leaving it with both vigour a poignancy running through the track.
If this isn’t his best track to date, it certainly isn’t far off it. It is another step on his continued road to what feels like inevitable success, and the most exciting part of the journey is it feels as if he hasn’t hit his peak yet.
