TWO TONNE MACHETE - HOME

WE REVIEW THE NEW SINGLE FROM TWO TONNE MACHETE – HOME

The band, TWO TONNE MACHETE have one of those names that just sticks with you. It’s a name that just feels so fitting for a punk band. Their name isn’t the only factor that should make you give this band a listen though, as their latest single release HOME is a great display of their talents. Definitely worth checking out.

There is something subdued about the beginning of the track. You hear a guitar, which sounds distorted and crunchy, which starts the song with its solitary noise, preparing you for what will inevitably be an epic rock track. It sounds quite gritty, which piques your interest from the first note. It wastes no time in getting the vocals to join, which perfectly compliments the guitar. They are significantly raspier in this initial verse compared to the rest of the song, an almost sexy and mysterious quality to them.

The second verse feels very similar tonally, a little bit quieter, but this is just in comparison to what is a raucous, loud chorus that steals the song.

The brief pause we hear before the first chorus launches, prepares us for the brilliance of what is to come. It builds up tension, swapping the slightly tame verse for a bold chorus during which it mentions the title, ‘HOME’ in the line ‘Don’t take me home now.’ We hear this more than once, which means that the lyrics are easy enough in this section to be sure to get a crowd singing as well as a mosh pit moshing. The contemporary punk genre is being brought to life by TWO TONNE MACHETE.

HOME gives us a long instrumental midway through, following a catchy post chorus. The post chorus features layered vocals, the more background vocal faintly singing the line ‘don’t take me home’ once again. The two voices give this part depth and are a stand out within the song.

After this we get a significant portion without any vocals. Towards the end of the instrumental, there is a short example of muting every instrument. This is once again doing a build up, but this time building the instrumental up as it prepares to repeat a quieter version of the chorus. You just know that in true rock fashion, this quieter chorus itself is building up to one final big chorus, or at least a variation of it to keep things interesting.

The track ends with the post chorus part heard before and leads it out in an energetic style that is sure to have you bobbing your head. It’s a class tune that gets better with every listen and fans will not be disappointed with this one.
