WE REVIEW THE NEW SINGLE FROM USUALLY MODEST

“Toothpick” is the newest single by Swiss artist, Usually Modest.

Describing the sound, they say:

“The world through the eyes of a small-town kid, with real life experiences” “Music is everything to me and I honestly don’t know where I’d be without it. Music has saved me and gave my life purpose.

So, now I want my music to do the same for others: to help and inspire.” It packs a punch, going straight into a modern synth-like verse, a ramped up 80’s sound almost.

But then the vocals kick in and I was blown away, it’s not what I was expecting at all!

The whole track is crafted incredibly well and leaves you wanting more, I expected a synth-indie like track with a bit of pop thrown in, but it really surprised me. Think Kid Laroi when it comes to vocals, they’re fast paced but they connect with the beat and they blend with the backing track very well.

The lyrics are emotional and meaningful but is masked by the upbeat from the backing vocals and guitar riffs and incredible drum beat.

It would be incredible live, whether that’s a small contained gig or a festival, a real crowd-pleaser.

Overall they’re taking their influence and turning it into a modern, fun genre which I imagine would be popular with audiences both live and listening.

A solid track and I want to hear more.
