WE REVIEW THE NEW SINGLE FROM VENTRELLES – ACID FLOWER

Indie rockers Ventrelles return with a sonically exciting new single, Acid Flower. The track does what it says on the tin and takes you on a psychedelic guitar-spanning journey that captures the flare of Manchester guitar bands.

Ventrelles, who themselves hail from Manchester mix their signature Fleece-pop sound with Britpop. The concoction creates a beautiful combination of 80s jangly and dreamy guitars with vocals reminiscent of the 90s. The track is swimming in psychedelic luxury with echoing drums, screaming guitars and soothing vocals.

The overall sound complements artists such as The Stone Roses, The Verve and The Charlatans. It’s the kind of Manchester guitar rock that isn’t four chords and a simple chorus that dominated the 90s. Instead, it’s an exploration of the sounds and visions that previous cultures influenced on the music scene.

Acid Flower blooms from its inception and the vocals and guitars are split so cooly as if competitive friends. The thick Manchester accent blends in beautifully in the chorus as the heavy effect guitars ring out over directive bass notes. The verse and chorus structures blur with no interruption. It’s as smooth and psychedelic as you like from this type of indie rock. It’s the kind of sound you want bouncing off of walls and back at the band.

Whilst Dreampop in nature, the track is still full of energy, especially felt in the bridge from the striding guitar chords. However, it’s the ferocious drumming felt later on in the track that births new life into it. A few more effects and this band would be bleeding into shoegaze territory, but the overall style feels too catchy for that. However, the mashing together of sonically dreamy sounds and steady tempo rhythms does make each listen to Acid Flower a little bit different.

It’s a track that has benefitted from its influences and could be slotted into multiple points in history. Ventrelles is capturing the magic of Manchester music, the real Manchester music whilst at the same time not being restricted by any musical limitations.
