Aussie rockers, Vermantics are releasing more tunes into the world, and ‘How Does It Feel’ taken from their latest EP, The Pictures You Paint, is an especially great track. The EP is a masterpiece in itself, but this particular song is an absolute belter that begs to be heard.
How Does It Feel comes in at just under three minutes, making it quite short, but certainly leaves you wanting more. Particularly the instrumentation in the verses as the chord changes paired with the riff in the background sound great and gives it an almost melancholic feel that could give you goosebumps. It would have been great to hear more of it isolated before the singing joins but we just get straight into it, not wasting any time.
The whole track has a rocky, grungy vibe. A bit 90’s. This is most evident in the choruses which have that bigger sound. When the line ‘How Does it Feel’ comes in, because it is the title of the song, it feels like a big pay off with the more drawn out instruments that also allows for more breathing room. Ideal for getting a crowd to sing your words back to you. Hearing the title definitely feels like an epic culmination to the main attraction.
The bridge section is catchy and stands out due to the way it maintains the same energy as the chorus. It may even ramp it up slightly more. The choppy guitar in the middle of the bridge emphasises the louder notes that follow and again give it a feeling of epicness as a result.
Following this we get a slightly quieter moment, a final verse, but one that feels shorter. A teaser before it then launches into the big finale, one final rendition of the chorus. Sadly marking the end of the song. That last ‘How Does It Feel’ sounds even more emotive and passionate, but the inflections in the lead singer’s voice throughout prove how much feeling is being put behind each lyric.
It’s a great track that you can listen to again and again and find new parts to love each time. A 10/10 track from Vermantics.
