WE REVIEW THE NEW SINGLE FROM WEEKEND RECOVERY – NO GUTS, ALL THE GLORY

Abstract popsters KLF once said that to achieve a number one record; a song should have a solid groove all the way through that is irresistible to the current generation.

From the first growls of distorted guitar and the rifle crack of a snare, until the last beat of the last chorus, Weekend Recovery have certainly hit that groove on “No Guts All The Glory”, recorded with master Sheffield producer Paul Tuffs.

Creeping in and grabbing them like a winter breeze under an old door, the track has the listener bopping their head along like that infamous white cat from a thousand memes…gradually building in intensity until breaking into a full on, whiplash inducing headbanger of a record, to scream along and punch the air to in delightful defiance.

Frontwoman Lori Forster furiously fires into everyone who has ever gossiped, moaned or lied about their friends, taking shots at motor-mouthed, ill meaning fakers and hangers on…bringing more riot grrrl energy than an issue of Tank Girl.

Snappy metaphors like “Are you saying I don’t play with sharks” and biting accusations like “My name is in your ears” seem to paint a picture of the modern music industry and the duplicity of it all. The call and response vocal is the perfect snarling cherry on the fuzzy birthday cake that Weekend Recovery have baked and served up for us this time.

Following the success of their last release, “Chemtrails”, the band have made sure not to lose any of the momentum they’ve been gathering over the last few years, with No Guts All The Glory grabbing the listener round the windpipe and forcing them to listen.

There are even snippets of French scattered throughout the lyrics, and judging from the level of fire across the rest of the track…it doesn’t take a translator to get the feeling that it’s probably more along the lines of “pardon my French” than “the language of love”.

As the track builds to a towering crescendo, Lori screams, “What you talking about? What you talking about?”

Which is quite fitting, because if people have any sense, they’ll be talking about Weekend Recovery.

If you’re one of the many who finds yourself talking about them too, just make sure you watch what you’re saying…or you might find them coming after you too.
