Warrington-based band WINACHI, the self-proclaimed ‘Northern Groove Machine’, are back with their newest track, ‘State Of Mind’, marking their highly anticipated first release since 2024
Touring worldwide with the likes of The Charlatans, Happy Mondays and more, the band have amassed a strong following, even picking up a couple of awards at the 2024 ISSA Awards overseas in Atlanta
Drawing inspiration from the diverse musical backgrounds of each member, ‘State Of Mind’ is a fusion of Funk, Soul and Indie/Psych-Rock.
The song kicks off with a tight bongo-based groovy, layered with warm, reverbed chords. The funkiness really comes to light once the vocals come in, accompanied by airy harmonies and cemented with the funky yet solid electric guitar. The soul element of the band comes through in the offbeat bright keys placed lower in the mix, subtly adding a funky groove alongside the tight basslines carrying the song. The lyrics lean into the ‘Psychedelia’ element of the band’s long list of genres, since they refuse to be bound into the genre-jail.
‘State Of Mind’ is a strong return for WINACHI and definitely worth a listen for anyone into groovy music, with a hometown show supporting Starsailor this Summer, the band’s 2026 is coming up to a strong and steady start
