Do you ever miss the 80s music scene with bands like Erasure, A Flock of Seagulls, Duran Duran? Fortunately, LPMC is bringing back those vibes with his new song Jennifer. It’s a synth-pop track mixed with electric guitar and cracking vocals.
Lee McMahon is the face of LPMC from South Yorkshire who has already received praise from independent music magazines and even BBC Introducing. The soloist has been inspired by his working class background to create music with a song writing style that is prominently accomplished, the independent artist has not failed to produce music so irresistible.
Jennifer reminds me of something your parents would play claiming it was one song they remember being on Top of The Pops back in the 80s. Its heavy electronic sound and catchy melody makes me want to listen to nothing but a New Romantic playlist all day long. The lyrics tell a story of a girl who has had a relatively hard time in life but is not afraid to face the world again, with lines such as ‘you’ve had to take the hard road to get this far,’ and ‘love never tore you apart,’ which many young people could relate to.
The drums mixed with synth within the song pull the piece together, they’re in time and not all over the place. It gives the song more of a catchy beat and rhythm. Lee’s techniques when composing this track have not gone unmissed. The use of different instruments has been blended together impeccably and give the song an out of the ordinary personality, which is nice to hear in today’s world of music.
Upon first hearing the track, I thought it was going to be more of a 90s dance track with the echoes of ‘Jennifer‘ in the introduction. I think the Jennifer at the beginning ruins the song a little bit. The repetition of lyrics makes the song sound more of a praise rather than just a composition. It’s as if Lee is so proud of his friend words were just not enough and turning those feelings into a versification was more compelling. The song ends on a high with the faintness of synth keys fading out, which has me excited for more of what LPMC has produced for part 2 of his 1st EP – The Lonely Boy Bar.
