RED RUM CLUB

WE REVIEW THE NEW SONG FROM RED RUM CLUB – CRUSH TX

Red Rum Club are an alternative rock band from Merseyside, who have just released their newest single Crush, TX, which is all about a small town in Texas that put on one of the first publicity stunts in 1896 by crashing two trains into each other. The song has that western-rock vibe to it, which fits with Red Rum Club’s vibe perfectly!

The band are set to play Glastonbury and showcase Crush, TX to the people who attend their set on the Leftfield Stage. All I can say is that from first hearing the tune it is certainly an indie/western dance-y track that audiences are going to love. The band have been entertaining crowds for almost 10 years and have gained thousands of followers over that time as well as releasing 5 studio albums. The Liverpool lads have played sold-out shows including playing to a crowd of 11,000 people. These guys sure know how to get themselves out there!

When it comes to Crush, TX all I could think about was how much it sounds like Led Zeppelin’s Immigrant Song, the trumpet within the song played by Joe Corby sounds exactly like Robert Plant’s continuous ‘ahhh ahhh’ within Immigrant Song, as well as the guitar build up to the first verse, which is heard throughout the song. The vocals by Francis Doran are repetitive and catchy through the song. With the band consisting of 6 members, they all use their own talents to create great songs like Crush, TX. This song really stood out to me as all the instruments within the track are clean and work terrific together.

Within the song there is a slight pause that then builds up with the same chord progression from guitarist Michael McDermott which takes us towards the end of the song. I really enjoyed this bit, it makes you wait for more from this brilliant band and encourages listeners to stay for more of the song.

One downside to this track is that there isn’t a breakdown to the song, it is a continuous beat throughout. Nothing that really grabs your attention when you get more into the song. I think the band could’ve benefitted more with something like a guitar solo in the song to get people going when listening to it live. Saying this, towards the end we do get more of an energy built outro to the song, but it could have been better if it was more in the middle to keep people going whilst listening to the track.
