WOLF ALICE - LIVE AT KLUB PROGRESJA

WOLF ALICE SELL OUT KLUB PROGRESJA – WHAT WENT DOWN IN WARSAW?

As part of ‘The Clearing Tour’, the fourth show of the European leg saw Wolf Alice take on a sold out Klub Progresja, thanking all two-thousand audience members personally by blowing the roof off the building.

Supported by the rapidly rising Florence Road, the atmosphere was electric from the moment they stepped on stage. Long-time fans at the front. Shazam making an appearance towards the back. The room was in awe at the voice of Lily Aron.

Ever-powerful renditions of ‘Break the Girl’ and the recently released ‘Miss’ saw every set of eyes glued to the stage, ensuring Irish-Polish relations continue to thrive and building the perfect atmosphere for the impending arrival of Wolf Alice.

No more than forty minutes later, the headliners were centre stage. Opening with ‘Thorns’ and erupting into a premature performance of ‘Bloom Baby Bloom’, the room fell into chaos all before shifting the spotlight to Joel Amey, the leading voice on ‘White Horses’.

A stellar introduction to their latest record, the more-familiar ‘Formidable Cool’ demonstrated just how strong Ellie Rowsell’s voice was, before a mix of melancholy and freshness culminated in the fan-favourite, ‘Bros’, leaving very few dry eyes in the house.

Track nine saw the tour debut of ‘You’re a Germ’, an infectious bout of energy, before ‘How Can I Make It Ok?’ followed up with a sing along that transcended the language barrier. Another showcase of new music came next, preceding the moment where all members of the band come centre stage to perform an acoustic rendition of ‘Safe From Heartbreak’.

A beautiful showcase of talent feeds into three tracks of maximum energy, most notably the wailing sirens of ‘Yuk Foo’, prior to the waving arms and flashlights of ‘Lipstick on the Glass’ and ‘Play It Out’.

The intense build up of ‘Giant Peach’ flows immaculately into the groove of ‘Smile’, keeping the ceiling tiles on their toes before playing the final track of the set from ‘The Clearing’ – ‘The Sofa’. Maybe everything is fine and maybe it will all be ok. The track of the night in my eyes.

The encore called and the room started to clear, whilst the five people on stage came back out and locked in for ten minutes of pure bliss. ‘The Last Man on Earth’ bought the room to a halt. Angelic vocals and beautiful instrumentation, the emotion coursed through the veins of the building.

Capitalising on their own brilliance, ‘Don’t Delete the Kisses’ followed the band’s goodbyes and completed the set in the most perfect way. A song that questions relatability preceding one of the most relatable indie songs ever. It’s poetic.

An incredible show from start to finish. Florence Road were perfect openers, a similar style with their own punch and purpose. Wolf Alice provided twenty-two bangers, all hits. no misses. A perfect balance of mosh-pit inducing energy and pure tearjerkers, they continue to prove why they are performing two nights at London’s O2 Arena in December.

Different country. Same star power. Wolf Alice treated Poland to an intimate showcase of Britain’s best. Phenomenal.
