Women in The Music Industry – Rowetta (Happy Mondays)
Thanks for joining us today Rowetta. We are celebrating women in the music industry, as a prominent female in the music industry, what are your thoughts on how women are treated in the industry?
I’ve never allowed myself to let it affect me. I work hard and try to get along with people regardless and always be professional. I don’t give anyone any reason to treat me differently. I know some women feel they are treated differently, but personally, if anything I feel I’ve had as much if not more respect for doing well.
What do you like to do away from music?
I love to spend time with my dogs and I travel a lot.
What female artists are you enjoying at the min?
Kimberley Davis from Chic has the most incredible voice and a top girl too. Very grounded.
Tell us something about yourself that you think people would be surprised about?
Probably that I’m the ‘Ooh’ voice that runs through Black Eyed Peas’ – ‘Boom Boom Pow’ It was Number 1 in the US for 12 weeks!
What’s the worst and best part about being in the Happy Mondays?
The best is that we’re still touring and doing festivals 30 years since I joined and better than ever. We’re family. The only bad thing is that because we’re so busy, I’m away from my dogs so much.
We are good mates with The Winachi Tribe can you tell us something funny about those lads? I’ve known them for a long time and performed with them quite a lot in the past 10 years, but I never kiss and tell 😉
What adventures do you have coming up?
I’ve recently recorded with Todd Terry, Gaz Cobain, Paul Weller, Steve Craddock and collaborated with some incredible House producers, so they will all be seeing releases soon + a 30 date tour with Happy Mondays all around the UK from October – December. Lots of surprises for 2020. Really looking forward to it.
