ZIMMER 90

ZIMMER90 LIVE IN MANCHESTER – READ ABOUT WHAT HAPPENED HERE!

Tonight was an early show, I got into Gorilla at around 7:45 with 15 minutes to spare before Zimmer90 came on. Gorilla was a favourite venue of mine when I was younger so it was so nice to be back. It felt bigger than I remembered and transported me back to being a teenager. The crowd was buzzing, with chatter echoing throughout the venue.

The lights went down and there was a big cheer from the crowd which was met by a rather synthy beat. ‘Good evening Manchester’ Joscha Becker, the lead vocalist, said before getting straight into singing the first tune. The first song had the crowd gently bopping along to the electronic synthy vibes. Becker’s voice paired so well with the jazzy yet calm tune that played alongside. After the first song had finished Becker mentioned how they had driven from Germany to the UK and said ‘let’s have some fun, let’s dance’. The next tune had a great motif on the synth and had people equally bouncing along.

They mentioned how they’d spent the last 3 weeks in the French countryside so it felt weird coming and touring in cities, but they were very grateful for the reception. The next song started with Becker just singing along to a solo synth motif with the backing then coming in and Becker jumping off his keyboard to have a little dance. The next song had a lot more energy in it with the band members really putting their all into the song and getting the audience to clap with a tambourine and using cowbells too. The cowbells made the song really fun and added another layer.

By the next song the whole crowd was dancing along whilst Becker walked and danced around the stage. During this song Becker asked the audience to sing along with him during the chorus. This song played into a more upbeat song that had the crowd cheering and singing. During this tune the whole band got down on the floor and after chanting ‘1,2,3,4’ and with the crowd in unison started jumping up and down. The next tune was a new song which had a great ring to it, it was funky and exciting. Zimmer90 had their typical red, orange, yellow background which really highlighted the band members well.

The backdrop changed to a green and purple gradient and with it came a much heavier drum beat, it was almost as if something had changed within the band. This next tune had a distinctly more keyboard rather than synth feel to it with Becker playing and singing his heart out. This tune also felt much livelier giving a new feel to the gig and also really highlighted their passion for music.

The next song was an unreleased tune and the backdrop went back to red and yellow. ‘Do you think that maybe we could try this one again but louder?’ said Becker who then proceeded to play the chorus again with the whole crowd singing their hearts out. The beat dropped and the whole room was dancing. The next song got an even bigger reaction with the crowd shouting along the words.

Zimmer90 then played a cover of ‘When Love Takes Over’ which got a great reception from the crowd with everyone singing along dramatically. The last song brought a striking green background, the song had an eerie feel to begin with a spooky motif being played on the keyboard. The drums then kicked in and brought a fun vibe to the song with people in the audience clapping along. During the last song a pit opened up and had the crowd jumping. It was clear that everyone was having such a fun time.

The band got together and took a bow whilst the crowd then cheered ‘one more song’. Zimmer90 then came out to play such a feel good song that had the crowd dancing. Their last song had the whole crowd clapping along whilst the gentle vocals of Becker were paired with such an infectious beat. They took a bow after their last song whilst the crowd cheered along in admiration.

Zimmer90 put on such a wholesome show last night at Gorilla, you could really see the admiration this band had for their audience and their passion for making music shone through. Throughout the whole gig everyone was clearly so happy to be there, dancing with their friends , partners and even strangers. This German trio created such a lovely environment at their gig and made everyone in the room leave with a big smile on their face. Zimmer90’s synthy yet
jazzy sound really put them apart from other bands I have seen recently and made last night one to remember.
