Shoepunk garbage noise. Not a random string of words but how Sheffield fourpiece Weave describe themselves. The band formed in early 2024, quickly building a local reputation, having played Rock ‘n’ Roll Circus, Network and Corporation with an upcoming hometown headliner at Sidney & Matilda this November. Keeping up momentum in 2026 ‘Thirst To Joy’ lands this Friday as the band’s sophomore E.P.
‘Closer’ serves as the opener and the second single released prior to the record. The amalgamation of genres they utilise is immediately apparent with an in-your-face riff forming the foundation of the track. I really loved the bridge of this track with such a deep intensity as sinister guitar chords ring out and the vocals tremble across the cacophony of distortion. It really grips you as a starting track and lays an exciting foundation making you want more.
Next up was the leading first single they released ‘Dog Whistle.’ Softer guitars introduce this one to deliver a completely different atmosphere to the track. But the track really didn’t want to let you know it’s next move as the softer side disappears to make way for fierce walls of sound and pulsating basslines. The chorus is a battle of the soaring guitar and desperate snarling vocals which I imagine would be an engulfing listening experience live.
The second half of the E.P. is the unheard part of the E.P. with ‘Sinter’ opening with a deep drum loop. Spitting vocals cut through the chaos, the delivery akin to Fontaines D.C. The echoing loop in the outro makes for a brilliant ending as Weave maintain a rapid pace throughout. ‘Porcelain & 1215’ features very pretty guitar chords cascading and carrying the vocals across the verses before the drums command huge choruses. There is no halfway on their sound, there are constant rich layers of impenetrable sound. The outro on this track is unreal with a cataclysmic guitar solo and colossal drums to bring the E.P. to a brilliant conclusion.
Whilst listening I couldn’t stop allowing my mind to run wild about how these tracks would feel in a live setting. These tracks will be one hell of an experience and you’re in for a real treat when it comes out this Friday.
