RGM hops over to Europe for this one, As Denmark’s five-piece Kenio (more specifically Ferritslev-Fyn’s) has dropped their latest track “BreakDown”.
Their social media bio’s simply state “Rock Music from Denmark” – which you know what, I like it, straight to the point, but with the genre so broad, I was wondering what to expect…
Before we get onto the track itself, I want to comment on the artwork, it’s what looks like a merge of coloured paint, marbelling together, colours I personally wouldn’t expect to see mixed in with each other, but maybe that’s subliminal messaging, or maybe that’s just a deep interpretation, regardless, I like it, it’s simple, it’s clear and it’s intriguing.
The track itself starts with this punky distant guitar riff with an echo-tannoy like vocal and I wasn’t expecting that at all, then this rocky guitar kicks in and takes over and I thought “hell yeah, this is great”! then it almost stops, with the vocals cutting in and I was a bit blown away, it’s very well mastered and it feels very natural.
The style reminds me a bit of Linkin Park, the vocals are crisp, deep and you can pick the lyrics up super easily and then these stunning female vocals come in too, not that it needed them but it just adds so much more to the song.
What I will say, is that the lyrics are very harrowing, deep, but I feel like they reflect real emotions and it’s something that many people will have sadly felt at a point in their lives and relatable music with an adrenaline-pumping backing track will get listeners hooked.
It’s a bit of a rollercoaster throughout the track, lots of different elements capturing the emotion incredibly well and I’ve already said it, but it’s mastered brilliantly, I can see it going off at a live show, whether that’s a mosh pit, headbanging or just people belting it out, I feel like it’s one that will really be in touch with fans.
