Hiya Valerian Steel, thanks for joining us in the virtual RGM lounge today. Grab a brew and take a seat.
Thanks for joining us today… Tell us bit about where you are from and how you got into music?
I am based in Vienna, Austria. I have been producing electronic music for quite some time now, primarily under my main project Manufracture Music and my established A.C.I. (Analog Core Industrial) universe.
Music of Synergia is my new dark-electronic side project. I got into music because I was fascinated by the ability to create entire cinematic worlds just using synthesizers and sound design.
What’s the live music scene like in Vienna right now?
Vienna has a really beautiful, brooding underground scene. There is a deep appreciation for dark electronic, goth, and industrial music here.
The architecture and history of the city itself often bleed into the atmosphere of the local clubs, which is incredibly inspiring.
Do you think its easy to become a victim of our surrounds sometimes?
Absolutely. My new single Fading Echoes is essentially about exactly that. When you are surrounded by coldness or loss, it seeps into your mind.
My environment definitely shapes the melancholic and dystopian atmospheres I create in the studio.
What are your ambitions for this project?
With Music of Synergia, my main goal is to bridge the gap between club-ready gothic electronics and pure cinematic ambient soundtracks.
I want to create immersive audio-visual experiences that resonate with people who listen to music late at night to process their deep emotions.
Whats your favourite social media platform to use and why?
YouTube has been my main focus lately. Since I heavily rely on visual storytelling to accompany my tracks, having a platform that prioritizes long-form video and high-quality audio is essential for my releases.
What’s your view on the Music industry today?
It is extremely fast-paced and data-driven, which can be exhausting for independent artists.
However, the direct access to niche communities worldwide is unprecedented. You do not need a major label anymore to find the exact people who connect with your specific darkwave sound.
Whats your thoughts on AI generated music?
This is actually a huge topic for this current release, and I make a very strict distinction between audio and video.
The music for Fading Echoes is crafted using one hundred percent real, warm, analog hardware synthesizers. There is no AI in the composition or the audio production because I want that raw human emotion.
However, the music video I created for this track is entirely AI-generated. I love using AI as a visual tool to build dystopian worlds that would otherwise cost a Hollywood budget. The clash between warm analog audio and cold artificial video is the core aesthetic of this project.
What’s currently in your ears and on rotation at the moment?
I always go back to the cinematic depth of acts like Delerium and Conjure One. Their blend of ethereal female vocals and dark electronic beats is a massive inspiration for Music of Synergia.
I hear you have new music. What can you tell us about it?
Yes, my new single is called Fading Echoes, featuring beautiful vocals by Lyz. It is a 120 BPM dark-electronic track that deals with profound loss and the ghosts we fail to leave behind.
The lyrics talk about drowning in floods of despair and trembling fingers reaching for empty air. It is a very sad, chill, and deeply emotional track meant for late-night listening.
What was the recording process like?
Very hands-on and mostly done late at night. Because I use pure analog synthesizers, you have to capture the moment. You cannot endlessly tweak a preset later.
If the filter sweep feels right, you record it. Lyz delivered an incredibly haunting vocal performance that perfectly matched the velvet-room darkness I was aiming for.
Would you change anything now it’s finished?
Not a single thing. The slight imperfections of the analog gear give it a fragile, breathing quality that perfectly mirrors the theme of the lyrics.
Is there anything else you would like to share with the world?
Just a huge thank you to everyone who supports independent artists. If you enjoy dark, cinematic soundscapes, I would love for you to check out the video for Fading Echoes and pre-save the track!
